Addressing Unfair Forest Fees

NZ Forest Owners Association CEO, Elizabeth Heeg, and Ngā Pou a Tāne Chair, Te Kapunga Dewes, fronting Parliamentary Regulations Review Committee to address unfair forest fees.

In March Ngā Pou a Tāne and the NZ Forest Owner’s Association fronted the Parliamentary Regulations Review Committee to express concerns about the newly enacted forest (ETS) charges under the Climate Change (Forestry) Regulations 2023. The main concerns raised were Excessive Financial Burden, and Equity and Indigenous Rights. Both organisations assert that the new regulations place undue financial burden on forest owners, and Ngā Pou a Tāne Chair, Te Kapunga Dewes, asserts that the new charges disproportionately impact Māori-owned forests.
